Brands Hatch
TOCA Tours Weekend
Easter Bank Holiday 2002

The Performance Car section headed down to Brands hatch for the start of the new British Touring Car season. The TOCA "Superweekender", included Touring Cars, Formula Renault, Formula Clio, Porsche Cup and World Sports Cars.

The Vauxhall team once again dominated the touring cars, with Yvan Muller leading all the way. He was followed closely by team mate James Thompson, until his car blew up - three times! We began to feel sorry for the guy - it would have been nice for him to finish something…

The formula Renault racing was much more evenly matched than the touring cars - and there were some very exciting "racing incidents" along the way.

The Porsche cup provided some amazing racing - 20 or so brand new model 911 GT3 cars - totally identical mechanically. It was good to see a race where it all came down to the individual drivers, and their skills.

And, finally - the World Sports Car Invitation Trophy…. What can we say? They don't make them the way they used to…. This was truly world class.

We got a close up look at some of these beasts - the Dewalt and the TVR Speed 12 were my favourites, you can see why below.
